Staan Reg

“Staan Reg” translated in to English means “I am ready”. The lyrics were initially written at a time when our family received the sad news that my precious mum had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The words poetically describe the things I remember doing with her when I was younger, but mostly it really just celebrates a life of making memories with someone that you have loved all your life.

It asks questions such as “who will I be able to share my stories with” and “who will be able to listen until we reach that place where we cannot remember anymore”. This song asks the question as to whether there is “a place” where we cannot remember anything anymore - a specific moment in time?

If in fact this place exists, we become “ready” to arrive at that place as the MOMENTS where “knowing what we don’t know or remember” feels TOO long and difficult. This is our reality as we pass through this life but before that arrives for most, we are given opportunities to love others, to share in experiences and to make beautiful memories - live and love others in this moment and appreciate today.
